A platform for the unemployed

The unemployment rate in South Africa increased to 27.7 percent in the first quarter of 2017 from 26.5 percent in the previous period. It is the highest jobless rate since the first quarter of 2004 as unemployment rose faster than employment and more people joined the labour force.

The number of unemployed persons rose by 433 thousand to 6.2 million, the highest since at least 2001. Employment went up by 144 thousand to 16.2 million.

This is clearly not just a Reiger Park problem. Therefore, how we prepare our unemployed for the world of work will make a huge difference.

We at Re-imagine Reiger Park DONT have all the answers. And we DO NOT promise that everyone attending our workshops WILL get a job. But what we do know is, as a community, if we do not organise ourselves better, we will not be taken seriously, and we will not be able to address the challenge of unemployment adequately, as you can not manage what you can not measure.

So we urge everyone, especially those involve in community development work...let's stop it with the break-down syndrome and sabotaging each other. There's enough space for all to co-exists. Instead, encourage development no matter which corner it comes from. If anyone is busy with under-hand dealings at the expense of the vulnerable, will be exposed. For what is done in darkness WILL BE uncovered by the light. Now than ever we need to take hands and work together to secure the success of this community.

So, this coming Thursday, 27 July, 7pm at Reiger Park Civic Centre we are creating a platform for the unemployed to register their cv's in order for us to start the process of managing and assisting where we can to alleviate this burden. Call me a Dreamer, but I believe its possible. Please invite as many people, we thank you in advanced.
