Recycling

& Cleaning

We started a business Incubator facility with a view of registering two groups of ten youth members into two separate and independent cooperatives that would work on a Community Environmental Management Project focussing on recycling and maintenance (cleaning blocked drains, cutting grass, etc). We provided them with necessary training, mentorship and nurtured them during the early months and years of growth.

The project started at the end of May 2016. Our first milestone was securing a premises to operate from as well as to implement infrastructure and purchasing of operating equipment and safety clothing.

Youth empowered to make right career choices

The Re-Imagine Reiger Park Initiative, in collaboration with the Harambe Community, Development and Resource Centre, hosted a Youth Day event on Tuesday, June 16, 2015

More than 400 students received career assessments, education and guidance, along with life skills development opportunities, all conducted in a workshop-like manner.

The Organising committee was Altovise Lawrance (Dstv’s BET SA Top Actor winner 2015), Michaela Le Roux (SA Miss Earth 2015 Finalist), Marvin Du Plessis (Computer trainer at the Harambe Resource centre), Clayton Jacobs (Centre Manager at the Harambe Resource centre) and Brandon Isaacs (Convener Re-Imagine Reiger Park Initiative.)

“We placed a huge emphasis on career guidance this year, as we find that an enormous number of our youth is extremely uninformed about career choices,” said the convener of Re-Imagine Reiger Park, Brandon Isaacs.

Other activities included a wellness clinic and fitness class, dance performances, poetry, arts and cultural activities. – @NalediBoksburg

Job Creation Micro Business Opportunities - 08 of October 2015 at the Reiger Park Civic Centre.

Re-Imagine has been addressing the concerns of the high unemployment rate, high crime rate, and the unrestrained circulation of Illegal substances in the community.

To this end they hosted an event which brought together at the Civic Centre 16 of the Seta CEOs, and other role players like the NYDA, as well as the MEC for Economic Development - Mr Lebogang Maile.

In addition to this over a thousand unemployed matriculants were present. They eagerly listened to the opportunities that were presented to them. These opportunities ranged from bursaries, Learnerships, Micro business funding and loans for the more established businesses.

We believe these opportunities are only the beginning to meet the needs of a highly unemployed and oppressed community.

Brandon Isaacs, who spearheads the project through the help of Mr Sam Alexander, CEO of The Pacific Institute, is currently following up on all the commitments made by all present organisations.

Hosted Chris and Suzanne Styles from "Makes You Think". A team of business and personal development specialists who know exactly how to get you the results you want. Hosted a community coaching event, on the 05th of July 2014, with young and vibrant entrepreneurs.

Topics that were discussed: Learn how to make more money, the art to taking control of one's financial destiny, how to be happy and more fulfilled in life, how to start a business effectively, as well as, how to grow your existing business. They gave practical insights, on how to turn a business around, and one of the most stimulating topics was, learn how to become wealthy and protect you wealth and lastly what's the true secret to personal and business success.

Parade

On the 17th December 2012, Re-Imagine had another combined and hugely successful Christmas Parade through the streets of Reiger Park. It was a pulsating event to say the least.

We catered for 1500 children and attracted 1800 kids from all around the community. This was in conjunction with the Christmas party held with the congregation of St. Francis Catholic church.

We had the fire department showing off their skills for the children. We had sponsors helping with toys, food, sweets, cloths and all sorts of colourful things to make Christmas great.

In its inception in 2011 this has become an annual community event.

The Danone Nations Cup is the world's biggest football tournament for children between the ages of 10 and 12 (U12s category). One of the main values in fair play; therefore this competition helps to install in these young players what is respect and dignity in victory as in defeat. Because of its beautifully maintained soccer grounds, Danone has chosen to make use of the WJ Clements stadium for a second consecutive year to host the prestigious final.

Re-Imagine supported the inter-generational sporting challenge on the 1st December 2012 to mark the festive season. This was an event where the young ones competed with the not so young ones.

Being a provincial government agency established in 2005 under the auspices of the Department of Economic Development to provide non-financial support; financial support; and co-ordinate stakeholders for the benefit of Small Medium and Micro Entrepreneurs (SMME's) in Gauteng.

We managed to hold two successful Enterprise Development workshops, where attendees received information of Gauteng Enterprise Propeller's (GEP) mandate. Further assistance was provided, when GEP assisted nine (9) "Informal" i.e. "Spaza shops" businesses with a R9,000.00 grant each as a kick-start or enhance current business operations. The money is to purchase stock, equipment, tools, etc. The Idea and requirement here was to get the "informal" not registered businesses, to register.

To date five more formal businesses have received R40,000 grant funding to assist with product enhancement and business growth.

Currently, the informal businesses have been registered and the formal businesses have grown and have created a few jobs in the community.

The Re-imagine Reiger Park initiative in conjunction with the Centre for People with Disability (CPD), the Synergy Foundation and Atmosphere Changers has embarked on a drive to obtain as much unwanted items from the community to be sold off at a pavement sale in order to generate funds for the Centre. We with the help of our local ward Mr. Charles Crawford and Patricia and her local municipality team cleaned two former illegal dumping sites and they are now beautiful gardens, one opposite the post office, another next to a taxi rank and another behind St. Anthony's centre.

Besides the IIE training for educators, we also have embarked on tackling the literacy problem in our schools. We have undertaken a pilot project with Reiger Park secondary school in the form of a "Spelling Bee" Competition. This is in the hope of getting learners and their families involved in spelling and ultimately creating a habit of reading.

After a year of planning we managed to source a generous sponsor - Divine Events - who assisted in the funding of the project. The winner of the competition and his family were sent off for an International holiday. Second prize winner enjoyed a regional trip, and the third prize was a local trip to a resort.

Spelling Bee

This cluster has finally kicked off the long awaited Poetry in Motion sessions on World Poetry & Human Rights Day held at Capone's Kalahari and a local restaurant in the community.

This was a successful celebration of Poetry & Song rendered by the young people of Reiger Park. The official launch with all the bells & whistles was impressive.
